My dear husband and I went to see the new movie 'For Greater Glory' this weekend. What a powerful experience--so often we think of saints and martyrs as people who lived 'back then' and maybe we forget that WE are all called to be saints, and may well be called to be martyrs.
This movie will remind you of that very important lesson. Based on the story of the Cristeros, the armed resistance to the Mexican religious-discrimination laws, the story follows the lives of a few of the Mexican saints canonized by Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI. It is an intense movie--but then, war and religious-cleansing are intense subjects. I wouldn't recommend it for young children, but certainly high-school students should be allowed (heck, encouraged) to see it.
Who knows how long the movie will stay in the theater, so hurry up and see it this week!
